Don't Take Zinc Tablets

On An Empty Stomach! I Did!!!!!

Yesterday was the first day I felt almost back to normal after having a cold for about seven days. I woke up today at about 10:00, came downstairs... still feeling slightly under the weather with the effects of this cold. Pretty quickly I spotted the container of zinc tablets on a counter. I don't read directions all of the time; and didn't this morning. My thinking, which isn't always the best with regard to dosages, is that

'if one is good, two are better.'

So I took two of the zinc tablets. The symptoms I had prior to the zinc were sneezing and a stuffy nose. Within 20 minutes or so,

bam!

Stomach ache... cramping... and a run to the bathroom! Many runs to the bathroom for about an hour!

First off, I thought this was part of my current illness, but it got worse. The stomach cramping was very difficult to deal with and diarrhea became one of my 'symptoms.' I was very hungry, I hadn't eaten breakfast yet. I had prepared a breakfast and found that I couldn't eat... Now, I had nausea! At just tasting something I felt sick to my stomach and soon had to run again to the bathroom.

Soon I decided to just hit the couch and rest and try and see if this would pass... I felt extremely ill. Near me was a HP touch pad - with wi-fi connectivity. Using the touch pad device I searched for 'took zinc and have stomach ache' and found...

"taking zinc on an empty stomach will cause nausea."

There it was. In black and white. I'd done it to myself once again.

Most physicians say lymphedema is a lifelong disability and cannot be treated effectively. But that's not the way Glasser sees it. He uses a procedure called complete decongestive physiotherapy (developed in Europe in the 1930's and refined in succeeding years) which involves manual lymph drainage, special compression techniques, and precise nutrient supplementation. With this, Glasser is able to get lymphedema patients moving about easily again, their limbs back to normal size. Glasser says patients who start a supplement program two to four weeks before beginning lymphedema treatment get "greatly enhanced results". Glasser adds "there is usually a dramatic improvement in symptoms' edema decreases, scar tissue softens, swollen limb measurements decrease, and an overall improvement..." .... to this article...

"...don't give much thought to our arteries. That's especially true when we are young and think we can eat anything we want. But here's a news flash: plaque begins to build in your blood vessels during your teenage years. That means that most of us have a significant amount of plaque by the time we hit middle age. That can, in turn, lead to a condition called atherosclerosis" which can set you up for a heart attack or stroke. Atherosclerosis evolves over many years as the blood vessels gradually become narrowed or blocked by plaque. Plaque is a fatty substance made up of cholesterol, triglycerides, calcium and a blood-clotting material called fibrin, which causes the endothelium tissue that lines the artery to malfunction..."

On another note...

This will be a short chapter, but after you're finished with it, you will know more about vitamins than 95% of clinical nutritionists, doctors, supplement sales force, or body builders. If that sounds arrogant or overstated, it really isn't my fault. I'm just a messenger; a purveyor of information. Either I'm right or the 95% are right; can't be both.

Without further ado, here's the kernel: ascorbic acid is not vitamin C. Alpha tocopherol is not vitamin E. Retinoic acid is not vitamin A. And so on through the other vitamins.

Vast sums of money have been expended to make these myths part of Conventional Wisdom.

If you have several college degrees and all this is news to you, don't feel bad. Unless you think your education ended at Commencement. Which is generally true."

FORGOTTEN TRAILBLAZER

Dr. Royal Lee was the pioneer researcher in the field of whole food vitamins.

For decades he documented the basic facts summarized in this chapter. His work has never been scientifically refuted. Anyone who seriously undertakes the study of vitamins today corroborates Lee's work. His story is a fascinating study in itself, a study of indomitable perseverance in the pursuit of true principles. Jensen tells us that Royal Lee's work will not be appreciated until the next century.
Hasn't happened yet.
Lee felt the full weight of organized drugs/medicine bearing down on him. Reading like something out of Schindler's List, we learn that the FDA not only persecuted Lee for challenging the economics of synthetic vitamins, produced by giant drug companies, but that he was actually ordered by a court to burn all his research of the past 20 years! Burn his research! When has that ever happened in this country? They didn't even do that to Larry Flynt..."

No food product in our country would have any trace of benzoic acid, sulfurous acid or sulfites or any alum or saccharin, save for medical purposes.

No soft drink would contain caffeine or theobromine. No bleached flour would enter interstate commerce. Our foods and drugs would be wholly without any form of adulteration and misbranding. The health of our people would be vastly improved and the life greatly extended. The manufacturers of our food supply, and especially the millers, would devote their energies to improving the public health and promoting happiness in every home by the production of whole ground, unbolted cereal flours and meals.

Is Ascorbid Acid Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is an organic compound, meaning it consists of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen molecules, vital for normal body functions. Although many animals can produce vitamin C, humans cannot, making vitamin C one of the 13 essential vitamins. The synthetic form of vitamin C produced in the laboratory is known as ascorbic acid, but because the structure and biological function of the two compounds are identical, the terms vitamin C and ascorbic acid are used interchangeably.

The body needs vitamin C for the production of collagen -- a protein that provides structure to skin, blood vessels, bones, ligaments, tendons and other connective tissues. Vitamin C helps to repair and maintain healthy cells which make it vital to wound healing. Vitamin C also acts as an antioxidant because it protects cells from the damaging effects of free radicals -- negatively charged particles formed during normal reactions involving oxygen. Vitamin C promotes the production of the chemicals in the brain, known as neurotransmitters, vital to normal brain and nerve function. Research on ascorbic acid confirms that the synthetic form of vitamin C performs these same biological functions.

Disease Is Reversible

"Natto is the perfect food for curing what ails most Americans. There's a large body (pun!) of evidence suggesting that eating natto on a daily basis significantly reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure (all exacerbated or caused by excessive blood-clotting), as well as arthritis and rheumatism (caused by stiff or swollen internal tissues). It is bold to claim that natto can prevent so many ailments, and unless you dig a little deeper, it probably seems no more reliable than the claims made for any other health-food or supplement. But I think natto is different. The evidence is there, and it's worth paying attention to, if only for a few minutes..." ... to this page and article ...
